"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all of this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinquish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:14-17

Thank You to All Donors...

Thank you to everyone to came to the Blood Drive yesterday in Haltom City, the outpouring of support was incredible! There were approximately 100-150 people who donated blood and about 70 new people who were added to the National Bone Marrow Registry, that is an amazing turn out.

Our deepest and sincerest gratitude goes out to the following -
  • The Haltom City Fire Department, especially Bryan Cotton who took the time to organize this event.
  • Carter Blood Care, and all the employees who came to help.
  • Cooks Children's Medical Center and the National Marrow Donor Program, thank you for giving your valuable resources to our cause.
  • Melissa Sanchez, staff writer, and Paul Moseley, photographer, from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, thank you for taking the time to share Jared's story.
  • All the Fire Departments in the area who took the time to come and support one of your own.
  • Everyone who waited in the long lines and the heat to donate blood and to be added to the National Bone Marrow Registry.

We are unable to express how unbelievably blessed we are by the constant outpouring of support for Jared, Christina and the Waters Family. We pray that the Lord would pour His blessings out on you and your families and that you always know how thankful we are for you.

Here are a few pictures from yesterday-

Jared went home today, woohoo! His levels are all still low but he is on the upswing. He is scheduled to start his next round next week sometime. We will keep you posted!

Hi Jared!

I am so excited the blood drive was such a huge success! Even though I couldn't be there, I gave blood at work today in your honor. I am glad you are back at home now and can rest up and feel better.

Love and Prayers,
Lish

Good to here you are home again to get some rest before the next round starts. The blood drive was great, I was there for a little under two hours and was shocked by how many people kept showing up. It was interesting to see how people rally around someone in need, even someone they do not directly know. Unfortunately I was not there when Hans tried to steal the fire truck. Glad to know you're feeling better.

ps: didn't realize we could use the blog to fantasy football trash talk, I wish I had a team good enough to allow me to do that. Maybe if you trade Larry Johnson for my kicker I would have something to talk about.

I just read the article in the STAR-TELEGRAM and it is a super testimony to your family.

So glad the drive was successful - I'm still rooting and praying for you, Jared (and all your family).

Blessings,

I got turned away for donating blood because it was near the end of the drive and they weren't accepting any more. After this I was told that I could donate in Jared's name at any Carter BloodCare center. This proved more difficult than it initially appeared. After talking with several people at the local center and the central office I was able to nail down the exact process. I'm posting it here so that all of you that love Jared and Christina can donate blood on Jared's behalf without all of the hassle.

Process for donating blood / platelets

1. Find a Carter BloodCare Center near you: http://www.carterbloodcare.org/wsf/donorcenter.asp

2. Walk in during their office hours and/or schedule an appointment ahead of time

3. If you are not in their system you will need to register. If you are in the system, you will want to update your file so that Jared can get credit for your donation. There is a very important field on your registration that indicates your 'sponsor'. This is who will receive credit for your donation. If you were originally registered in school or by your employer, they will likely be designated as your sponsor. My file still showed 'L.D. Bell High School' as my sponsor. To designate Jared as your sponsor give them his name and sponsor number: 32886

4. Decide on the type of donation to provide. There are multiple blood 'products' that can be given depending on your blood content and height/weight. For each 'product' that is donated, Jared will get credit to reduce his medical costs. Donation types include:
- Whole Blood
- Red Blood Cells (typically a double donation called 'double reds')
- Platelets
Each of these is considered a 'product'. I have an exceptionally high platelet count, so it is actually possible for me to give whole blood AND two donations of platelets during a single session (a total of 3 products). Discuss with your technician the various options available for you to donate.

5. Schedule an appointment for your next visit so that you can get on a regular schedule of donating. Each time you do it will help Jared and potentially save other lives with your contribution.

Keep praying and sending Jared and Christina your love and support. With the Lord's help we will win this fight.
